I would buy the subscription if I had a machine that was equipped to handle redshift. Right now I have a great cracked version of C4D that I can keep learning off of. Thank you so much for your reply - this is all so daunting! I am open to any renderer, but interested in Redshift simply because the maxon bundle. Let me know any other questions you might have! It's also owned by Maxon now so it's a good one to get involved with now as I expect that integration will get much tighter over time. I also liked Vray but Redshift is the best by far for me and the way my brain works. I personally love Redshift and prefer over Octane (which might be Nvidia only) and Arnold. I'd recommend an AMD CPU, something from the Ryzen family. I would look at "workstation" computers, though some gaming machines can be really good. I don't have specific recommendations but a pre-built is probably the best way to go right now because of how difficult finding Nvidia GPUs for sale can be. Plus, you'll be able to afford higher tier components with a PC over a Mac anyway. Redshift just started supporting Mac and AMD GPUs and, while it works fine now and I expect it will get better over time, it is definitely built specifically for Nvidia GPUs. Just echoing what others have said here, but def recommend getting a newer PC and I personally don't recommend a Mac.
